Ptarmigan Treks is a fiercely proud company, proud of its continued reputation to deliver and guarantee a high quality service with high customer satisfaction and the ability to deliver that personal touch whatever the occasion. Ptarmigan Treks was born from my own love of Scotland's mountains and countryside, with my main aim and emphasis on introducing more individuals to the outdoors of Scotland, the old and young alike to learn and appreciate what we have literally on our own doorstep.
Hopefully we can share our love for the outdoors to all who take part whether it being through one of our organised charity events or from a single day walk, our goal is to provide each and every individual with a day or week to remember for all the right reasons. We are there to pass on the skills, advice and experience that myself and my guides have learned and gained over the years of training and visiting some of the most remote and harshest areas in Scotland in all seasons.
Since starting I have been asked countless times 'how do you pronounce Ptarmigan' and what does it mean? Well first of all you pronounce it 'Tarmigan' and secondly a 'Ptarmigan' is a bird only found in the mountains of Scotland over 2000ft. The bird itself resembles the grouse and changes its plumage in winter to white to blend with its mountain background.
Unfortunately the Ptarmigan has been reported to be in decline recently by the RSPB, therefore I feel this and other conservation issues should be promoted and made aware of by providing our general public the chance to visit and appreciate our beautiful homeland of Scotland.
