The Winter Challenge begins for you on a Thursday afternoon when you will be met and collected at your pickup location in Glasgow. You will then be driven by luxury coach or minibus depending on numbers, to the Highland town of Fort William where on arrival you will be taken to your accommodation at The Cruachan Hotel where you will be given time to settle into your room. From here there will be a welcome meeting to brief you on your 3 day stay in Fort William and introduce you to the guides who will be looking after and accompanying you on the mountain, there will also be a presentation on winter skills & safety as well as issuing everyone the necessary equipment for the weekend.

Friday morning starts with a full Scottish breakfast in the hotel dining room before our transport arrives to take us to the Nevis Range ski resort where we take the 15min gondola ride to 2000ft, from here we will get to do some hands on winter skills! Under the watchful eye of your Ptarmigan Treks guides. Here you will learn such things as; ice axe arrest, use of crampons, step cutting, basic survival skills and map reading etc.

After lunch we spend around another hour or so practicing our newly acquired skills before we take the gondola ride back down to meet up with our transport. After a hot bath or a shower at the hotel its time to enjoy our evening meal in the hotel restaurant before we settle down for the night and look forward to our ascent on Ben Nevis in the morning.

The day of our walk begins with an early start and another full Scottish breakfast. We will then be collected by our coach/minibus to take us to our start point in the beautiful Glen Nevis where we will be given our packed lunches. We start on the old pony track that starts from Achintee in the beautiful and scenic Glen Nevis (The movie location for Braveheart & Rob Roy) and crosses the flanks of Meall ant Suidhe to the halfway lochan. From the lochan the track makes a series of uphill zigzags over increasingly rough ground, which leads to the extensive summit plateau where remains of the old observatory can be found - if its not covered in the white stuff!

Certificate presentation in the hotel

Hopefully with the weather permitting we will have the complete group on the summit, so after lots of photos including the all important group photo that will be published on the Ptarmigan Treks website for all your friends and family to see.

On our return to the start point in Glen Nevis you will find the coach waiting to take you back to the hotel, maybe for that long soak in the bath you've been thinking about all the way off that mountain! Its then time to round off the day with a well-earned rest and another evening meal in the hotel restaurant, leaving us only one more formality, presenting you with your certificate of achievement, before you head out to celebrate and sample the local hospitality.

Your three days then come to an end on Sunday after yet another full Scottish breakfast before your coach arrives to take you to your departure point in Glasgow.

Not only can this event be considered as a great personal achievement, but you will also be helping to promote and raise much-needed funds for your Charity by taking part in this superb three-day package.
